updating the pathway…

July 13, 2010

{let me invite you into my home…}

in my attempt to be an adult, i have sometimes chosen interesting styles of decoration, including my infamous geometric patterned walls.  but, while at village valuables this year (you must remember how much i love that thing…), i found a gentleman selling old prints done by Pierre-Joseph Redoute.  Redoute, if not familiar, is what i would call the godfather of botanical paintings, in which he strove to express their anatomical nature.  these, of course, are not originals.  many of his drawings/paintings were used to create specimen books.  and these books became popular, were printed and reprinted with time, and were often dissected and used for art.  i have no idea how old the book was that these prints were taken from.  there is significant yellowing of the pages.  the man was selling them individually for $2 a piece.  i simply couldn’t resist.  i have seen similar prints in antique stores selling for $20 or $30 a print.  the question, really, was how to frame them and where to put them…

over the july 4th weekend, i finally accomplished some long awaited tasks.  framing these prints was one of them.  and therefore, what was once a simple pathway upstairs is now a little more elegant, and a bit more grown up… i suppose there’s hope for me yet…
