i forgot… and other things

May 31, 2012

i am sooo bad.  i forgot to post lyla’s 7 month photo.  i took it.  i edited it.  i just never posted it.  i remember that with adelaide, her 7 month photo was also a long time in coming.  must be something about the beginning of summer and the hurried frenzy of activity that seems to follow.

in other news, things are happening in the garden.  i suppose this shouldn’t be surprising.  six years of working at a seed company should have imparted some knowledge and skill.  still, d couldn’t help saying, ‘i don’t have faith that things will actually grow.’  so, each day, i peep, like a little kid so excited about the thrill and prospect of surprise.  it’s not to prove him wrong.  it’s just, maybe i too am actually a little bereft of faith.  with so much emphasis placed on this plot of land, there’s seems to be much hanging in the balance.

but, as it turns out, i should have a little more faith in myself, and also in the miracle of life.  look at that strength.  i am in awe of life – in awe of the thrusting of dirt by the upward drive of a seedling, the sheer desire to live, to move the earth with every inch of your being.  the unfolding of those first tender leaves took no more than a day.  and all the fibers in my being are screaming, ‘why can’t this be me?’

so let’s get down to the dirty: what’s really up:

:: cucumbers

:: radishes

:: lettuce

:: watermelon

:: pumpkins

:: beans

:: nasturtiums

:: my self confidence

okay because really, i have to admit, i’ve never felt so poorly about myself.  we do this, don’t we?  as people, i mean.  we beat ourselves up about the smallest things for so long that sometimes it feels like the only way to live.  but then a tiny crack in the dirt allows us to break through and suddenly the light on the horizon is a little brighter.  these sweet seedlings may just be my salvation.

    Those sprouts look just like our cucumber sprouts! I was so surprised at how quickly they started popping up.We planted them on Sunday and already they are thriving! How amazing. I have become completely infatuated with our garden. I’ll have to get some pictures up of our little sprouts :) And I also planted lettuce and spinach in a huge pot I found in the garage.

      hey! the sprouts are watermelon and pumpkin seedlings. the cucumbers are up, but they are smaller. it is just so precious – life. i will continue to take photos and share. and,we would love to see your photos as well. in fact, if anyone wants to send me the pictures of your own gardens, i can do a whole post about that. that could be fun! we planted lettuce and kale and beets. but since they’re cold weather crops, i’m not really sure they’ll do well. but we’ll see.

    Yes, Lauren, I, for one, do that to myself. But I see you differently. I see you blossoming! So grow, little one, grow! Reach up to the sun and blossom where you are planted. I love you.
