for the love of bees

July 10, 2012

bees are buzzing.  the little pollinators are finding their way around my garden beds.  perhaps it’s the newly blossomed plants that are drawing them in.  i am amazed at how quickly these plants are producing fruit and flower.  and i am in awe of bees.  from seemingly nowhere, they find the smallest of flowers and go about their merry way.

thank goodness for these fuzzy little loves.  they are a secret passion of mine, if i must confess.  you can find bee motifs all over my house.  some day, when there is room and when i get up the nerve, i’ll become a beekeeper too.  but until then, a native bee box will have to do.

bees are great pollinators and extremely important to our ecosystems. everything we do should be with that in mind, even if it’s inconvenient. i think it’s important to remember that we live together on this earth and that we share space with many important pieces to a very large puzzle. although i know some have allergies and there are always exceptions to the rule, i do believe we should live with the mindset that every little action is a ripple. the bees are precious beyond belief, and as i said, a secret passion of mine. we should be building more environments for them, not tearing them down! Even Haagen-Dazs agrees with that! :)

    Someday, we’ll be beekeeping together!

oh i hope! with the way bees are disappearing from our landscape, i think it’s more important than ever to foster respect and love for them – and to dive into the hive! plus, a little honey never hurt as a reward for all the hard work. :)
