eek!

they’redonethey’redonethey’redone!!!

i guess it makes me so happy to know that one of my  little ones will have fingers sheltered from the cold.  the question is: who is my lucky victim recipient?  right now, adelaide’s fingers seem to fit them best.  they are bigger, for sure.  and it would probably stretch two winters, if i’m lucky.  but i was really hoping these sweet mittens would be for dear lyla.  and so, maybe they shall be… she grows so, every day.  the ease of the mittens without thumbs seemed best suited for lyla, and i had knit them with that intention.  but, when they came out bigger, because i never do a gauge swatch or listen to yarn weight suggestions, i thought maybe adelaide would have to wear them.  but i’ve had my eye on these cuties for quite a while now.  they are so perfect for adelaide. i know she’s not even two.  there are YEARS here mama, YEARS, for lots of knitting mittens… but when you have your heart set on something… sigh… sometimes nothing else will do.

don’t you agree?

as always, you can see my notes on ravelry: nordic baby mittens.

be prepared, i warn, for a slew of knitting posts as i have recently discovered Lark Rise to Candleford.  now life will never be the same.  d, who remembers my long affair with the river cottage, midsomer murders and luther, will probably just roll his eyes… but i digress.  (oops, secretly revealing here that i have a slight tv obsession, specifically british tv, in an otherwise waldorf/natural parenting household… what’s a knitting girl to do?)

also, as a small side note: happy birthday brother… i LOVE you :)

the mittens are beautiful. as much as i want to be a good knitter, i have come to accept that i do not think i have that kind of patience. my kind of patience is on a whole different plane. i hope, maybe some day, but until then, im okay with it.

and how is it that we never knew how many similar things we both love as adults? i am completely obsessed with british television. actually, i am obsessed with all things british and television just happens to fall into the category of ‘all things’ :)

They are so colorful and cozy. About how long did it take to knit them?

It took about 3 days, or so. The yarn is from Mountain Colors – handpainted and dreamy!
