a gnome hat

September 13, 2012

one principle of waldorf education is that children should dress in layers, and their heads should be kept warm.  waldorfmama unearthed this hat pattern, and i knew it was perfect.  her sense of color seemed to bring it to life.  and i was sure it was perfect for my scraps from the girls’ tunics.  indeed it has been the perfect project.  it barely takes a day to knit and is pretty effortless.

that being said… ha!  somehow i feel like my kids might consider these a little torturous… does this fall into the realm of: what was mom thinking?!?

but ugh!, so cute, right?? please say yes!!

and of course, again, you can find my notes on ravelry.

i seem to be getting ready for the cold weather.  i don’t know what’s in the air.  but i feel a great need to produce hats and mittens  and sweaters.  and things are flying off the needles faster than they ever have.  it’s good, i know, for the kids to see work in progress.  we talk about each project.  if it’s meant for them, they try it on, touch it, play with the yarn.  they get to see the progress each day.  it’s good for their souls, i believe.
