where are you, spring?

March 29, 2013

we are all looking for signs of spring.  i think it’s been unseasonably cold.  i’ve been waiting and waiting for a good time to put some seeds in the ground.  but every time i think the weather’s changing, more snow is in the forecast.

we recently went on our annual trip to visit my brother and his lovely wife.  and spring seemed all around.  i was even more determined to plant those peas when i got home.  but, the weather didn’t cooperate.  the closer we got to our home state, the more snow started piling up.

this is mother nature’s lesson in patience.  she is teaching me, every day, how to remain patient under various circumstances; i.e. toddlers who walk too slow up steps, or lengthy ‘test’ loads of laundry to see where that pesky leak in the washer is coming from, or, of course, seed starting.  oh how i long to see those little green sprouts!

now, i’d be foolish if i didn’t mention that i’ve started several things indoors, and will continue to do so.  i am getting a dose of greenery.  but spring is that magic season when all the world seems to awaken and i want to feel it in my bones.

on our trip, lambs were busy playing in fields.  hours-old piglets nestled next to their mom.  daffodils bloomed in profusion.  even the cherry trees had started to bloom.  it felt so good to see these time honored harbingers of the season.  i thought maybe, if you need a little brightness in your world, you wouldn’t mind me sharing these things with you.

Love your pictures – and I agree – we have to wait and wait – yet the fruits of our waiting and work in the soil is always so worth it! SPRING WE NEED YOU!!! happy Easter to the Hughes family! Carol Thornton
